Donald Robert McCaffree, MD, MSHA

Director of State & Local Policy, Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center at the Stephenson Cancer Center, Professor of Medicine, OU College of Medicine

Dr. Robert McCaffree is Regents’ Professor of Medicine in the Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care and Sleep Section in the Department of Internal Medicine.  He is also  Director for State and Local Policy for the Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center.  Dr. McCaffree has worked on tobacco issues for a number of years.  While he was President of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP), he testified before Congress on these issues and met in the White House with the Secretary of DHHS regarding tobacco.  He represented the ACCP in the ACT coalition when a national tobacco settlement was being considered.

When the voters of Oklahoma approved placing the money from the multistate tobacco settlement in a constitutionally protected trust fund (the only state to do this), he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust by then-Attorney-General Drew Edmondson.  He served as the first Chair of the Board and served on the Board until he resigned to join OTRC.  He has been President of the Oklahoma County Medical Society and the Oklahoma State Medical Association.  On campus, he has served as Chief of Staff of the old University Hospital and of the VA Medical Center.
