Summer Scholars

Undergraduate / Graduate Summer Scholars Program

The Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center of the Stephenson Cancer Center offers summer research training for undergraduate, graduate, and medical students. The 12-week program allows a trainee to participate in work under the mentorship of an experienced tobacco investigator in a research setting in Oklahoma City. Trainees will complete a mentored research project which they will present at the end of the term and will prepare an abstract for submission to a national conference.

Trainees will also participate in weekly seminars covering a diverse array of topics including:

  • Alternative and Emerging Tobacco Products
  • Tobacco Biomarkers
  • Mobile Health and Ecological Momentary Assessment
  • Measurement and Methods of Tobacco Use
  • Environmental Tobacco Smoke Exposure
  • Tobacco Treatment Interventions
  • Affective Neuroscience
  • Tobacco and Cancer Biology
  • Grant Writing and Preparation
  • Manuscript Writing and Preparation
  • Research Ethics 

Research Mentors Include:

Occasional social activities are scheduled for evenings and weekends. Summer Scholars are provided $6,000 for participating in the entire program. Low-cost housing at a nearby University can be arranged.
