Summer Scholars

Graduate and Undergraduate Summer Scholars Program

The Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center at the Stephenson Cancer Center is offering summer research training opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to attend a 12-week program (5/21/2018 to 8/10/2018). This program allows trainees to work under the mentorship of tobacco investigators in a research setting at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. Trainees will complete a mentored research project which they will present at the end of the term and will prepare an abstract for submission to a national conference. Trainees will also participate in seminars and activities covering a diverse array of tobacco and research-related topics, including but not limited to:

  • Tobacco Health Disparities
  • Alternative and Emerging Tobacco Products
  • Tobacco Biomarkers
  • Mobile Health and Ecological Momentary Assessment
  • Measurement and Methods of Tobacco Use
  • Environmental Tobacco Smoke Exposure
  • Tobacco Treatment Interventions
  • Tobacco and Cancer Biology
  • Grant Writing and Preparation
  • Manuscript Writing and Preparation
  • Research Ethics
  • Bench Research and Field Sampling
     

Research Mentors Include:

Optional social activities will be scheduled for some evenings and weekends. Summer Scholars are provided $6,000 for participating in the entire program. Low-cost housing options are available at a nearby University at the cost of the Summer Scholar.
